Seasonal Crime Trends

Firstly, from all here at Qamar Solicitors LLP we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

We hope that for you Christmas is a time of good will and festive cheer, but we also want to make you aware that Christmas brings with it a seasonal spate of crime.

Around Christmas time alcohol consumption is increased significantly and with this upswing in drinking comes a rise in crimes associated with drinking.

Road traffic accident rates and domestic violence rates, often alcohol fuelled, are consistently higher around Christmas time. Reports and charges of Alcohol fueled public disorder soar around Christmas, as do drink driving charges.

Theft and Burglary are prevalent around Christmas; a very logical explanation for an increase in this type of crime is that gifts left out under trees and are quick and easy to take. Consider also that Christmas introduces a financial burden to overcome and because of this stealing is deemed a necessary evil for many. Do not make yourself an easy target for theft and burglary by leaving Christmas presents out under the tree in a place that is highly visible to prying eyes. Fraud schemes are also very rife around this time of year. With the astronomical growth of the e-commerce industry many credit card holders are targeted as a great volume of people head to the internet to do their Christmas shopping. This is why you should always be careful when giving out your card details.

Qamar want to reiterate that whilst Christmas is certainly a time to enjoy it is also important to be careful and responsible.
